It's true that a lot of people, including myself couldn't quite see Kanye West as a fashion designer, and there are a lot of people still with that mind set. However, although there are still a lot of haters I have been Kanye converted. Fashion is all about the art of expression and making a statement, and with his show of Yeezy Season 3 collection the rapper certainly proved that. Through his presentation he displays major events happening across the globe, with the thought of time standing still as he makes the thousand models stand static in front of the audience for over an hour solidly. Making the audience think is one of the main goals of a designer throughout a fashion show and West succeeded.
The catwalk is set to the background of Madison Square Gardens and West’s new album, TLOP (The Life of Pablo,) is playing at the same time. He manages not one but two launches at the same time. The garments are within the similar vein as the other collections, with skin tight, sport-esque pieces on the women and oversized silhouettes for the men. The attention was not only on the clothes worn by the models that afternoon, but the Kardashians, including Caitlyn and even North, were there donning breath taking pieces made within five days from a collaboration between Olivier Rousteing and West.
It can’t be denied that West is a deep thinker, as he manages to stop time for a while and show the vast contrast s between the people in that room and those experiencing great pain and suffering in the poorer parts of the world. The notion is to make the audience of over 20,000 think about the fact that while they are sitting there in that same second poor innocent children are becoming refugees and families’ homes are being destroyed. It’s good to see the West has realised and appreciated the main gift he holds through his life that he can send important messages out and they will reach millions of people who will listen.
